Description: Y-Love (Yitz Jordan) is an MC unlike any other. He is a black convert into the Bostener sect of chassidus (the mystical branch of Orthodox Judaism). He is among the most innovative freestylers on the scene, weaving seamless polyglot rhymes in English, Arabic, Yiddish, and Hebrew. Most unique is Y-Love's revival of Aramaic, the ancient language used to discuss Jewish Law. With each word he spits in the tongue of the Talmud, Y-Love breathes new life into Hasidism, and hip-hop, one beat at a time. |

| Aramean1 ::: Favorites 2007-11-08 17:26:25 Prof. William J. Fulco: "Preserve the Aramaic language and traditions at all cost! DO not let the splendid Aramaic become endangered. It is wonderful language that links us back to Jesus and centuries of Christian history. To lose that connection would be a tragedy." __________________________________________________ | |

| daywono ::: Favorites 2007-07-10 22:05:15 Thanks for your positive and insightful comment. In addition to Iraq, there are sizable communities of (primarily Christian) Aramaic speakers in Turkey, Syria, Iran and Lebanon, along with fairly large diaspora communities in Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, and the USA. __________________________________________________ | |

| ddruce ::: Favorites 2007-07-10 06:41:35 Fair enough. Based on my education, the Jewish community in the US tends to overlook that Aramaic is used by people in and around Iraq, including among Kurdish Jews. __________________________________________________ | |
| daywono ::: Favorites 2007-07-07 04:20:36 He is amazing, but I don't like how this video's description attributes him with the "revival of Aramaic" since it has never died. I regularly listen to "modern" music in a few different dialects of Aramaic everyday. With a collection of over 200 tapes and CDs in Aramaic, I cannot accept someone being given credit for reviving a language that has been alive and kicking for thousands of years. __________________________________________________ | |
