I agree, the old classic argument is gender. For years people have argued that this is due to Nurture. But its now been proved that this is mostly built in. But like most things its probably a mix of the two. So some will argue that the predisposition for love is also an innate instinct, built in at birth. The research on this subject at the moment is fascinating. You really do come up with the most thought provoking questions. Write the book. Would love to read more of your ideas!

Addressing that in under 500 characters (including spaces!) is more than I can handle. Short answer, IMO: no. "Human nature" is only expressed socially, that is, in a being-with mode of being-in-the-world. "Love," "hate," or "desire" are all social modes of being; being-with means of expressing embodied dynamics. No other people, no love.

If as a thought experiment you lived and died within a closed room without any interconnction with another human being. Would you know what love or hate or desire is? Would these attributes even exist in such a life? If not, does it not follow that all these things are just results of complex interactions of nature and nurture? Or is it that the kernels of love, hate and desire are all built in via nurture deep within our genes?

lol | My staff and I are having the same thoughts and laughter about it | Just picture a bunch of geeks sitting around making programming jokes via IM to eachother and you pretty much have the picture | Of course then we cry because YT and staff are rich on stock options and we with our superior coding skills are not

Bonnie, cool idea, using the pipe (that's what programmers call it) | As a programmer, I have to say that it makes me crazy that replacing periods with pipes makes a difference for posting text | I would love to see what stupid thing they are doing in their code that makes this matter, but I'm guessing we'll never know

Probability enters into a relationship with our feelings by providing an alternative narrative | Part of what is interesting about neurophysiology, probability, etc is the way they can alter our narratives about our selves in ways that may affect how we experience our lives
