All but the part about the US selling weapons to Nazi Germany, which is simply not true. It's disappointing that people allow anger at current US policies to make them forget, distort or outright lie about positive American actions in the past. It's also quite childish and ignorant.

Vive la France! One of the greatest scenes ever portrayed on the screen! Such raw emotion and patriotism in an era of helplessness and all-out war. I can't help but wonder how many of us would instantly jump up and sing our national anthem in a room containing enemy soldiers??? I think we could use some true patriots today like the ones depicted in this scene - completely united and willing to stand for the cause of freedom!

I love this scene. So powerful. An ideological clash through the means of song in the microcosm of a bar- genius. fantastic film.

The "Wacht an Rhein" was not used, it was abused for that film!

Isn't it funny that the guys who played the German soldiers were refugees from Germany and Austria, because of their Anti-Facist attitude? And it's also funny that they use "Die Wacht am Rhein" for that scene because that Song was written in protest against the French oppression and aggression against Germans in the 19th century. And the lyrics of the "Marseillaise" are much more aggressive than "Die Wacht am Rhein"... Maybe the "Horst Wessel-Lied" would had fit better in that context.

Thats a clarified scene in a bad allied propaganda film, nothing more. You cant give a historical context on it.

Das ist kein Problem. Wir sollten froh sein, dass es uns überhaupt möglich ist, offen über soetwas zu sprechen. Als dieser Film gemacht wurde, war das keineswegs selbstverständlich :)
