1983 television commercial for (short-lived) fastfood chain Taco Time. Perhaps a predecessor to Taco Bell; I never heard of this one!

I was talking to a friend of mine last night and I mentioned this commerical to her and she said that she actually remembers the Taco Time store on George st because her and her friends used to hang out nearby when they were teenagers.

Kmarts here in Australia are actually owned by the coles group, sygo7q, they were planning to rebrand some kmart stores to Coles Superstores and others to Target (which is also owned by the Coles Group) but that plan has been put on hold for the time being here is the wiki entry for Kmart Australia en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Kmart_Australia

On the VHS cassette I am ripped now, I just saw an 80s K-Mart commercial! Though it could be weeks before it actually gets posted (what with my queue and other channels, etc).

Yeah I only remember Taco Bell, but yes they're gone now (but out my way there was a KFC & Taco Bell in one shop!).

Heh, they do that sort of co-branding a lot up here in the states (since Taco Bell and KFC are owned by the same company). Taco Bell pretty much swallowed up the competition by buying them out in the 80's. I'm also amused you guys have had Kmart for a long time (and the classic 70's logo to boot). Up here there's still one just a mile down the road from me.

What does K in K-Mart stand for anyway? And didn't Taco Bell swallow up ALL competition to become the only fast food chain in operation? Oh hang on, that was Demolition Man, hehe.

And because Google is your friend (or the excuse so I don't have to think all the time). The "K" in Kmart was for the name Sebastian Spering Kresge, the name who originally founded his company as a "five and dime" over a hundred years ago under the "Kresge" namesake. And yeah, Demolition Man would have you think that (Taco Bell was also in the act with their tie-in campaign when that film came out). Pretty much they're king of the "Tex-Mex" stuff outside the usual sit-down Mexican restaurants. Oh, and it's nice to see the company that owns the Kmart stores in Australia has yet to change the name over yet.

Oh. I had never heard of it here in Sydney, til I saw this old ad. To my knowledge they are all gone from here.
